I've always been told that tithing is fire insurance!

D&C 59:2a-3a "Wherefore I give unto them a commandment, saying thus: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God, with all thy heart, with all thy might,
mind, and strength; and in the name of Jesus Christ thou shalt serve him.

D&C 58:6g-i
Who am I that made man, saith the Lord, that will hold him guiltless that obeys not my commandments? Who am I, saith the Lord, that have promised and have not fulfilled? I command and a man obeys not, I revoke and they receive not the blessing; then they say in their hearts, "This is not the work of the Lord, for his promises are not fulfilled." But woe unto such, for their reward lurketh beneath, and not from above. So, we ignore commandments...and then wonder when the endowment is coming... I believe many of us restorationists have been excusing ourselves on tithing......and keeping a day of rest...... |

3 Nephi 4:1-2 And now it came to pass that according to our record, and we know our record to be true, for behold, it was a just man who did keep the record;
for he truly did many miracles in the name of Jesus; And there was not any man who could do a miracle in the name of Jesus, save he were cleansed
every whit from his iniquity.
Mormon 4:81-83 And if there were miracles wrought, then why has God ceased to be a God of miracles, and yet be an unchangeable being? And behold I say unto you, He changeth not; if so, he would cease to be God; and he ceaseth not to be God, and is a God of miracles. And the reason why he ceaseth to do miracles among the children of men, is because that they dwindle in unbelief, and depart from the right way, and know not the God in whom they should trust. The world may look at us and say, "Where is this Jesus Christ...you say lives in you?" "He said you would do greater things than He did." "Where are the healings and miracles?" Is it not because we have disconnected ourselves from the promises of the covanent? Because we have not kept His commandments? Have we not heard the right way and not walked in it? How many suffer health issues, and have died, because we have not kept His word...and He cannot keep His promises to us....that we keep trying to claim? I am trying to correct these things in my life.....and trying to point them out to others.... |

Very sobering indeed. We need to keep ourselves so hid in Christ that that sin conscience can not work in us.

D&C 81:3b I, the Lord, am bound when you do what I say, but when you do not what I say, you have no promise.
