I AM SO BLESSED
Leila Terry's Testimony
For the past several months, I would get terrible heartburn every time I ate anything. Sometimes it would get so bad I'd feel like I was having a heart attack. My doctor put me on antacids because he thought I had acid reflux. Also, I had difficulty eating anything that was dry or solid because it was hard to get it to go down. It got so bad that I was afraid to eat, and I loss about 15 pounds. Mostly, I drank liquids like "Ensure" or ate foods that were very moist, soft, and mushy.
Finally I went to a specialist at the University of Michigan because I could not get any answers from my regular doctor. While there, he ran several tests, including a cat scan and x-rays of my esophagus. After he reviewed the test results, the prognosis wasn't good. The tests showed that my esophagus wasn't letting the food empty into my stomach properly. The specialist told me that if they couldn't get it under control, they would have to put a feeding tube into my stomach. My first response was that I would NOT have that done, but I knew I needed to talk with my family about it first-IF the doctor should decide it was necessary.
Elder Kent Crosby called after he heard about the test results. He told me the Lord had words for me. I asked him to come over. He came over after church the following Sunday. After we talked, I asked him and my son Don to administer to me. They anointed me with oil, laid their hands upon my head, and prayed a prayer of great faith over me. After the prayer, I was no longer worried. I told God that He made my body, He knew how to heal it, so it was all up to Him. He has always been with me, and I knew He would bless me according to His will. A couple of weeks later, the doctor ran more tests on me.
On May 8, 2008, I went back to the University of Michigan for a consultation with the doctor. All the tests results were back. When the doctor came into the office where I was waiting, he was smiling. He asked me how I was feeling. I told him I was feeling good. He said, "You look better." (I had even gained back a little weight.) Then he informed me that my new tests showed that my esophagus was working NORMALLY again. It was obvious that he could not get over the fact that all the earlier tests showed it wasn't working like it should, but now it was. He asked me if I had done anything different or if my medicine had been changed since my last visit. I told him no. Then he asked me what I thought had happened to cause the dramatic change. I pointed up and told him that it had to be because of the Lord. I added, "I have had so many prayers offered for me that it could not be anything else!" He stared at me for awhile. Then he responded by telling me that he had prayed too. He assured me again that I was fine. He told me to go home-that he didn't need to see me for another six months.
I am so grateful for the prayer of faith spoken by the Elders and for all the prayers offered up for me by the Saints. God does hear our prayers, and I praise Him for granting me another wonderful blessing!
