Yes, this portion of the text seems instrumental to me. Whatever Nephi said, God would cause to happen, because Nephi would not ask contrary to God's will. What says to me is that Nephi had such a relationship with God that he was Spirit led in everything he did, rather than opinion led or led of his own thinking, etc.
This is key, I believe.
