Although I don't know if Joseph made that change (intentionally) or if it was a decision on the part of the committee that published the Inspired Version. They compiled the changes from a number of sources, not all of them were necessarily intended by Joseph to have made to the Bible. What I mean by that is that some changes were taken from notes that he made in his personal Bible. As I understand it, the committee, in some instances, had to decided for themselves whether or not they thought Joseph intended to have these notes integrated into the work of fixing the Bible.
Either way, however, I don't think the addition of that word really changes the meaning of the text, except perhaps to reinforce the point being made.
Sidney Rigdon was part of the rewording process of the JST, perhaps he was the cause of the addition of the word "alone".
