Hearing to opinions of others can sometimes be helpful, I'll agree. Especially if they show you something in the Scriptures you have not previously seen, or share a testimony or experience that might be helpful in your considerations. However, not much value can can from erroneous human tradition or arguments clouded by bigoted thinking. Sometimes there is a fine line there. Good luck to you in discerning the truth out of muddy waters that denominational thinking will sometimes get you.

However, if you want to know the RLDS, or x-RLDS (Restorationist) perspective, we have no official prohibition on it whatsoever.
Most would personally have no problems with it whatsoever...
...although there may be some few among us who have their own personal racists or bigoted thinking (likely gained from how they were raised), a minority, which you will also find among any common group of people.
