Ooh, I meant to ask about the W.W. Phelps reference cited in the Evening and Morning Star, vol. 2, p. 384. The only copy I have access to is the one at the CenterPlace, and that volume 2 only goes to page 192 or so. I'm no historian. Do you know of an online source where I could read this paragraph in context?

Hello Doug,

A copy of that color-highlited document you mention is still in my possession as well. I remember reading it and wondering how much of my own Utah D&C I could trust.

Further, I too felt that something was off in what we had passed down to us as Paul's teachings. This view was cemented by some writings I recall from this site, and from Bro. Livingston.

That was 2002. At the time, I prayed heartily about Joseph Smith and received enough witness...

Honestly, ...I think the chief reason for all the speculation about error and conspiracy is because of the inherent need for a people who had so much pride in an institution they long thought of as the one and only true church on the face of the earth, to find an explanation. Instead of looking inward, at ourselves, to find the cause of failure in the Church, we had to discover some external cause ... and men who are long gone, and cannot defend themselves against endless speculation and...

I agree I don't think it was on purpose or for some shady reason, I am just surprised because some people make a big deal of it and I don't see anything as far as doctrine that was changed.

But some people just have their feelings hurt too easy I guess. .

The biggest change was to Section 17 .... in that a couple pages were added. However, there is no real mystery to this. Joseph had received further revelation on the subject, a second revelation, and they merged it with the first. So, chronologically or historically speaking, Section 17 was a two-parter, merged into one longer revelation. I don't think anyone was trying to pull the wool over anyone's eyes ... they just felt the two belonged together, and so made a continuation to...

I went to a site that had a side by side comparison of the BofC and D&C with color coding. I was surprised to see not that much was modified from the BofC. It looks like only certain chapters were modified.

The other site by Mirl Edwards I believe is down for some reason. It is no longer available.

So after chapter 65 of the BofC how can anyone say anything was changed past that?

Yes there was a past history with this name. The person who used to be the First Elder stopped using the name and was going to more of a Wiccan route. God prompted me to ask him to use the name only and was appointed First Elder. I will send you the New Book of Covenants, which I inherited from the past leadership.
